The company was launched in 2012 as part of Zimride, which was created by Lyft’s cofounders John Zimmer and Logan Green in 2007. Zimride was created as a way to deal with city-to-city and longer duration trips whereas Lyft was designed to deal with in-city transportation.

More than 1 billion rides have been completed.

It is estimated that Lyft has 1.4 million drivers.

On average Lyft drivers earn $364-377/month.

Lyft is available in 350 US cities, and Toronto in Canada.

The busiest Lyft driver in terms of rides has completed 31,000 journeys.

Lyft provides over 1 million rides daily.

Lyft completed 5,000 rides using driverless cars in 2018.

Lyft has a valuation of $24 billion.

Lyft claims 31% of the ride-hailing market in the US.
